Job summary

Sterling St James Inc. is seeking a hands-on Mechanical Engineer for our steel operations. You will work on significant equipment installations, reliability improvements, and capital projects that impact safety, productivity, and uptime.

Expect to troubleshoot on the plant floor, develop specifications, and lead major projects from concept through completion while coordinating with contractors and internal teams.

Qualifications

• BS in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience.
• 10+ years in mechanical engineering, preferably heavy industrial.
• Experience with capital projects and equipment installations.
• Strong problem solving and root-cause analysis abilities.
• Ability to lead cross-functional teams and manage contractors.

Responsibilities

• Troubleshoot, improve, and optimize mechanical and hydraulic systems.
• Lead reliability and continuous improvement initiatives to boost uptime.
• Support melting and steelmaking equipment upgrades and installations.
• Provide engineering input for large baghouse and environmental systems.
• Manage projects from concept through commissioning and completion.
