Job summary

Wieland is seeking a Sr. Process Engineer in Waterbury, CT, to improve production processes and the quality of copper and stainless steel alloys.

This on-site role requires collaboration with engineering, quality, and shop floor teams and includes 15-25% travel to other locations. The successful candidate will apply metallurgical knowledge and process engineering skills to develop and optimize routes, support root cause investigations, and ensure adherence to safety and quality standards.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in engineering or science; material science preferred.
• 5-7 years' metals processing engineering experience or equivalent.
• Advanced metallurgical understanding of metals (mechanical properties, crystalline structure).
• Familiar with ASTM standards for copper base and stainless steel; able to interpret standards.
• Familiar with SAP ERP system (preferred).
• Experience with copper-base and stainless-steel alloys in processing environments.
• Understanding of rolling mills, annealing furnaces, leveling lines, slitting equipment and capabilities.
• Knowledge of ISO 9001, TS 16949 standards (internal auditor certification).
• Ability to conduct root cause analysis and communicate technical information to non-technical audiences.
• Six Sigma Yellow Belt certification preferred; strong problem-solving mindset.

Responsibilities

• Develop, evaluate, and improve methods for complex manufacturing processes related to copper and steel products.
• Collaborate with engineering, quality, and shop floor to develop standards and solve processing issues.
• Evaluate new product requests, develop process routings, and follow through to shipping.
• Develop new processes and change routings to accommodate resources.
• Work with quality on customer returns and create rework for non-conforming material.
• Plan and execute improvement projects driving sustained results with safety focus.
• Review mechanical properties and adjust processing to meet customer specifications.
• Support Sales and Technical Service with dimensional layouts and capability studies.
• Lead root cause investigations and use SPC, PPAP, APQP, and FMEA as needed.
