Job summary

Mars is hiring a Sr. Project Engineer – Process in the United States to lead capital projects across the Accelerator division.

You will drive technology deployment, coordinate cross-functional teams, and ensure safety, quality, and cost objectives are achieved in a fast-paced manufacturing setting. Based in Chicago, IL, you will collaborate with Engineering, Operations, Procurement, and Finance to deliver high-impact projects from ideation to turnover, while mentoring staff and advancing process

Qualifications

Bachelor of Science in Engineering (Mechanical, Chemical, or Electrical preferred).
Min. 7 years in engineering/leadership within consumer products manufacturing with food processing expertise.
End-to-end capital project management across multiple work streams and budgets.
Broad breadth across packaging, civil/structural, electrical, utilities, and construction management.
Strong English communication; ability to influence cross-functional partners.
Willingness to travel up to 50%.

Responsibilities

Capital Project Leadership & Delivery: Lead planning, execution, and delivery of capital projects from $2M to $100M+, on time, within budget, and compliant with safety, environmental, and quality standards.
Process Technology & Capability: Act as primary technical authority for processing tech within Accelerator; identify automation opportunities to optimize line efficiencies.
Strategic Cross-Functional Partnership: Partner with Accelerator BUs, Brand Innovation, Manufacturing, Technical Operations, and Procurement to align scope and investments.
Financial & Scope Management: Develop and manage capital budgets, cash flow projections, scope changes, feasibility studies, and cost-saving initiatives with Finance and PMO.
Standards & Technical Synergy: Support development of processing/packaging standards, leveraging R&D and Mars platforms.
Site Engineering & Technical Guidance: Guide site teams on design concepts, equipment specs, vendor selection, construction management, layout optimization.
Safety, Quality & Compliance: Ensure designs/procedures meet Mars safety and food safety standards with HSE & QFS teams.
Team Upskilling & Operational Community: Mentor and upskill teams in emerging technologies and project execution best practices.
