Job summary

MPI seeks an Associate Process Engineer in Rhode Island to provide technical support for high-volume chemical manufacturing, ensuring safety, efficiency and environmental responsibility. The role covers process monitoring, troubleshooting, development, and new product qualification in ultrapure chemical manufacturing.

You will lead DOE studies, apply Six Sigma methods, analyze SPC data, and collaborate with R&D, procurement and operations to scale up processes from pilot to full production,

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering required; other engineering disciplines may be considered with relevant experience.
  • Minimum 9 years of experience in chemical manufacturing, purification processes, and scale-up.
  • Experience with high-volume chemical manufacturing and process commercialization.
  • Strong knowledge of Six Sigma, DOE, ANOVA, and statistical analysis.
  • Proven project management and cross-functional collaboration skills.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor daily production activities for high-volume chemical manufacturing processes.
  • Investigate deviations, perform root-cause analysis, and implement corrective actions.
  • Lead process development, CIP initiatives, and scale-up from pilot to production.
  • Support new product development, shelf-life studies, and QC documentation.
  • Analyze DOE, SPC data, and process capability to drive improvements.

Job description

The Associate Process Engineer will provide technical support for high-volume chemical manufacturing processes, ensuring operations are conducted safely, efficiently, and in an environmentally responsible manner.

The organization develops and manufactures specialty chemical formulations and advanced materials used in semiconductor manufacturing and packaging. These products enable the production of microchips that power technologies such as artificial intelligence, electric vehicles, consumer electronics, and data infrastructure.

Process Monitoring & Manufacturing Support
  • Monitor daily production activities for high-volume chemical manufacturing processes.
  • Maintain process documentation, operating procedures, and batch record requirements.
  • Verify process compliance with established standards and procedures.
  • Support production teams in identifying and resolving process-related issues.
  • Participate in environmental, health, safety, and quality programs.
Process Troubleshooting & Quality Investigations
  • Investigate process deviations, non-conforming materials, and manufacturing performance issues.
  • Conduct root cause analysis and develop corrective actions.
  • Participate in Material Review Board (MRB) activities and support disposition decisions.
  • Analyze statistical process control data, out-of-control conditions, and process trends.
  • Prepare technical reports and recommendations based on findings.
Process Development & Continuous Improvement
  • Lead process improvement initiatives focused on ultrapure solvent manufacturing and purification technologies.
  • Support optimization of advanced purification processes including distillation, filtration, nano-filtration, and related separation technologies.
  • Drive Continuous Improvement Projects (CIP) that improve quality, productivity, yield, and cost performance.

New Product Development
  • Support new product development activities from pilot-scale through commercial production.
  • Manage scale-up activities and transition projects into high-volume manufacturing.
  • Conduct shelf-life studies and stability testing for new and existing products.
  • Prepare technical reports and recommendations supporting product qualification and commercialization.
  • Generate Management of Change (MOC) documentation and Engineering Change Notices (ECNs) as required.
Experimental Design & Data Analysis
  • Design and execute Design of Experiments (DOE) to evaluate process variables and raw material impacts.
  • Utilize statistical analysis techniques including ANOVA, Six Sigma methodologies, and process capability analysis.
  • Interpret experimental results and develop actionable recommendations.
  • Apply data-driven decision-making to improve process performance and product quality.
Raw Materials & Supply Chain Collaboration
  • Partner with Procurement, Strategic Sourcing, Manufacturing, Engineering, R&D, and Commercial teams to ensure raw material strategies align with quality and business objectives.
  • Evaluate raw material performance and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Support supplier qualification and continuous improvement initiatives.
Packaging & Product Quality
  • Establish and document specifications for product packaging systems.
  • Evaluate packaging materials and their impact on finished product quality.
  • Recommend future packaging technologies and improvements based on technical and operational requirements.
  • Support quality improvement initiatives related to packaging and product integrity.
Advanced Technology Development
  • Investigate and implement emerging process technologies, including advanced filtration, distillation, ion exchange, and in-situ metrology systems.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop robust process control strategies.
  • Support innovation efforts that improve manufacturing capability and competitive differentiation
Profile
Required
  • Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering required. Other engineering disciplines may be considered with relevant experience in ultrapure chemical manufacturing and process technology development.
  • Minimum 9 years of experience in chemical manufacturing, purification processes, process engineering, scale-up, and production operations.
  • Demonstrated experience supporting high-volume chemical manufacturing environments.
  • Strong background in process scale-up and commercialization of new products.
  • Experience with advanced purification technologies including distillation and filtration.
  • Working knowledge of process simulation tools and pilot plant operations.
  • Strong understanding of Six Sigma methodologies, Design of Experiments (DOE), ANOVA, statistical analysis, and structured problem-solving techniques.
  • Proven project management experience with the ability to successfully manage technical initiatives from concept through implementation.
  • Strong technical writing, documentation, and communication skills.
  • Ability to independently solve complex technical problems and deliver practical solutions.
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally up to 25%.
  • Ability to work in a safety-sensitive manufacturing environment and successfully complete required pre-employment screening requirements.
Preferred
  • Master's degree or advanced degree in Chemical Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Experience with semiconductor chemicals, electronic materials, or ultrapure solvents.
  • Expertise in advanced purification technologies and process development.
  • Experience supporting customer-facing technical initiatives.
  • Experience leading continuous improvement programs in regulated manufacturing environments
Job Offer
  • Salary Range: $125,000 - $135,000 + Annual Bonues
