A leading energy company is seeking a Senior Process Controls Engineer for its Toledo Refinery. The role involves ensuring safe operations through advanced control systems, monitoring applications, and supporting project work. The Senior Process Controls Engineer is responsible for ensuring the safe and optimal operation of the Toledo Refinery via the control system on a day to day basis. This includes design, implementation, support and troubleshooting of DCS control strategies (both regulatory and advanced) and DCS systems. This position will play a significant role supporting shutdown system testing and project work on assigned units, as well as supporting other units as needed. The Cenovus Toledo Refinery is a user of: Honeywell Experion, Modicon PLC, Triconex, and Aspen DMCPlus multivariable technology.
Monitors, maintains, and enhances existing advanced control applications in terms of effectiveness and utilization
Has shared responsibility for all aspects of the process computing system including system software troubleshooting & maintenance, application development, interface maintenance & development, system configuration, long-term planning, training, and documentation
Identifies, evaluates, and implements new advanced controls and automation applications. Provides input for project development including conceptual design, alternative review, costs, benefits, risks & mitigations, resources, plant testing, model development, interface construction, commissioning, training, and documentation
Tunes, enhances and troubleshoots applications which consist of regulatory, advanced regulatory and multi-variable DMC controls, with the understanding that the refinery operates on a 24/7/365 basis
Understands Company HSE practices, policies, & procedures and participates in Refinery HAZOP’s, LOPA’s, Alarm Rationalizations, and RCFA’s
Reviews instrument, control, and logic design recommendations for both capital and expense projects
Assists in training and development of Process Engineers, Board Operators, and Maintenance Technicians in Process Control topics and applications
Works collaboratively with all members of the Engineering and Technical Services Team and Toledo Refinery team
Supports critical refinery activities like Turnaround engineering support and preparation for and support during potential work stoppage
Who you are:
Legally authorized to work in the US
Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering or related Engineering degree
8+ years of relevant experience in industrial process control, process engineering or related field
Understanding of the manufacturing process including economics, commercial awareness, optimization opportunity identification and proper use of technology
