Job summary

Merck & Co., Inc. in Rahway, New Jersey, seeks a Senior Specialist in Chemistry to advance our pipeline of drug substances, including small molecules, macrocyclic peptides, and bioconjugates.

The role focuses on process characterization for late‑stage programs, establishing acceptable ranges, fate and purge studies, and chemical marker preparation. You will also synthesize starting materials and intermediates to support route scouting and kilo lab scale syntheses, performing analyses with HPLC,

Qualifications

• PhD in Chemistry or MS with pharma/biopharma experience or a BS with 9 years pharma/biopharma experience.
• Experience in organic synthesis, including synthetic methodology, catalysis, or total synthesis.
• Strong documentation and ability to work in a fast-paced, collaborative environment with GMP principles.

Responsibilities

• Laboratory-based characterization of late-stage syntheses to support commercialization by performing DOE, fate and purge studies, and chemical marker preparation.
• Laboratory work with diverse chemicals using modern equipment with rigorous documentation and safety.
• Laboratory synthesis and characterization of starting materials and intermediates to support route scouting and kilo lab scale-up.
• Non-lab tasks include planning experiments, data analysis, and writing development reports.
