Job summary

Merck & Co. in Rahway, NJ, seeks a Senior Scientist for the Discovery Analytical Research group to advance analytical method development for small molecules and peptides. You will lead HRMS/MS work and drive high-throughput workflows, collaborating across discovery and early development teams.

The role emphasizes maintaining GDP, data integrity, and presenting findings at project meetings while managing multiple priorities.

Qualifications

Ph.D. in Analytical Chemistry, Biochemistry, or related field.
Or Master’s Degree with 7+ years of relevant biopharmaceutical industry experience.
Deep expertise in HPLC/UHPLC method development and LC-MS characterization.
Experience with MS-based structural confirmation and de novo elucidation of small molecules and peptides.
Hands-on experience operating, tuning, and troubleshooting modern Q-TOF, Orbitrap mass spectrometers.
Ability to manage multiple projects with scientific rigor and collaborate across teams.
Strong written and verbal communication with publications or conference presentations.

Responsibilities

Design, optimize, and execute chromatographic separation methods (HPLC, UHPLC, SFC, SEC) with multi-detector systems.
Serve as SME in HRMS and MS/MS for structural confirmation and de novo elucidation.
Contribute to high-throughput analytical workflows and automated liquid handling integration.
Improve lab efficiency with automated data processing and digital workflows.
Collaborate with discovery teams and present findings at project meetings.
