Job summary

The Hartford is seeking a Claims Consultant for the Global Financial Lines Directors and Officers (D&O) Claims Group in the Naperville area. The role handles a caseload of claims-made Private and Non-Profit D&O claims from inception through disposition, including litigated matters.

A JD is preferred and a Bachelor's degree is required, with at least five years of relevant D&O or liability claim experience. The position offers a hybrid or remote work arrangement.

Qualifications

• Minimum of five years handling litigated D&O coverage and/or liability claims.
• Background in Public D&O or Financial Institutions, Financial Services Claims and Fiduciary (ERISA) Claims is a plus.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Excellent strategic thinking and execution skills.
• Advanced technical claim handling skills, including knowledge of insurance coverage issues.

Responsibilities

• Investigate claims and analyze information learned.
• Analyze coverage, liability and damages based on facts.
• Communicate positions to insureds and required parties.
• Set reserves and monitor for adjustments.
• Present cases to management for authority limits.
• Develop resolution strategies through negotiations.
• Manage litigation and counsel, including budgeting and bill review.
• Attend trials and mediations as needed.
• Prepare reports for senior claim leadership.
