Job summary

The Hartford is seeking a Claims Consultant for the D&O group in a Hybrid or Remote setup, handling a portfolio of litigated Private and Non-Profit D&O claims from inception to resolution.

The role requires five years of litigated D&O experience, strong negotiation and communication skills, and a proactive, team-oriented mindset. Office flexibility includes Hartford area offices with some remote work available.

Qualifications

• Minimum of five years handling litigated Private and Non-Profit D&O coverage and/or liability cases as defense counsel or claims handler.
• Background in Public D&O or Financial Institutions, Financial Services Claims and Fiduciary (ERISA) Claims is a plus.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills

Responsibilities

• Manage litigation and counsel including planning, budgeting, and bill review
• Attend trials and mediations as necessary.
• Provide training and marketing support to Underwriters.

The Hartford Global Financial Lines Directors and Officers (D&O) Claims Group currently has an open claim professional position. As a D&O claims professional, you will be responsible for handling a caseload of claims-made, Private and Non-Profit D&O Claims, from inception to final disposition. As these claims are often in litigation, experience handling litigated Management Liability Claims matters through resolution and managing defense counsel is required.

Responsibilities

• Conducting investigations and analyzing and evaluating the information learned
• Appropriately and accurately analyzing and determining coverage, liability and damages based upon the facts of each claim
• Communicating written position(s) to insured's and other required parties on coverage, liability damages and other issues
• Setting appropriate expense and indemnity reserves and monitoring on a regular basis for any needed adjustment
• Presenting cases to management for expense or indemnity reserve authority above established authority levels
• Developing and implementing resolution strategies through negotiations to achieve high quality outcomes
• Proactively managing litigation and counsel, inclusive of litigation planning and execution, budgeting and bill review
• Understanding and analyzing potential extra-contractual liability as needed
• Attending trials and mediations as necessary
• Contributing to broader claim and enterprise goals by participating in audits, projects, training and product development initiatives
• Preparing comprehensive reports and delivering presentations to senior claim leadership on case developments, policy issues, industry trends, etc.
• Providing support and working collaboratively with business partners to evaluate and address claim trends and developments
• Addressing inquiries from agents and policyholders, providing superior customer service
• Providing key training and marketing support to Underwriters
• Attend and present at various industry events each year on risk management and claims topics

Qualifications

• Juris Doctorate degree preferred, Bachelor’s Degree Required
• Minimum of five years handling litigated Private and Non-Profit D&O coverage and/or liability cases as defense counsel or claims handler.
• Background in Public D&O or Financial Institutions, Financial Services Claims and Fiduciary (ERISA) Claims is a plus,
• Candidate should be disciplined, results-oriented and able to focus on bottom line results
• Candidates are required to have knowledge and experience handling all aspects of Management Liability claims.
• Candidates should demonstrate the following:

• Excellent negotiation and advanced technical claim handling skills, including knowledge of insurance coverage issues

This role can have a Hybrid or Remote work arrangement. Candidates who live near one of our office locations (Hartford, CT, San Antonio, TX, Lake Mary, FL, Scottsdale, AZ, Naperville, IL, Alpharetta, GA) will have the expectation of working in an office 3 days a week (Tuesday through Thursday). Candidates who do not live near an office will have a remote work arrangement, with the expectation of coming into an office as business needs arise.

Compensation

The listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions in the external market. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency and demonstration of competencies required for the role. The base pay is just one component of The Hartford’s total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term or annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition.
