Job summary

The Hartford is seeking a Claims Consultant for the D&O group in a Hybrid or Remote setup, handling a portfolio of litigated Private and Non-Profit D&O claims from inception to resolution.

The role requires five years of litigated D&O experience, strong negotiation and communication skills, and a proactive, team-oriented mindset. Office flexibility includes Hartford area offices with some remote work available.

Qualifications

• Minimum of five years handling litigated Private and Non-Profit D&O coverage and/or liability cases as defense counsel or claims handler.
• Background in Public D&O or Financial Institutions, Financial Services Claims and Fiduciary (ERISA) Claims is a plus.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Excellent strategic thinking ability and execution skills
• Excellent negotiation and advanced technical claim handling skills, including knowledge of insurance coverage issues
• Superior time, task prioritization and desk management skills
• Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, and to influence and persuade others
• Ability to work with minimal supervision and be a team player

Responsibilities

• Investigate and analyze information gathered on claims to determine coverage, liability, and damages.
• Communicate positions on coverage and damages to insureds and required parties.
• Set reserves and monitor for adjustments as needed.
• Present cases to management for authority on reserves.
• Develop resolution strategies through negotiations to achieve outcomes.
• Manage litigation and counsel including planning, budgeting, and bill review
• Attend trials and mediations as necessary.
• Provide training and marketing support to Underwriters.
• Present at industry events on risk management and claims topics
• Collaborate with partners to evaluate claim trends and developments
