Job summary

Lumen is seeking a Senior Privacy Counsel to serve as the primary legal contact for procurement and Trust & Safety, advising on data processing agreements, privacy requirements, and AI governance. The role reports to the Chief Privacy Officer and focuses on practical, business-oriented legal advice in a fast-paced environment.

The ideal candidate will bring 5+ years of privacy experience, a J.D., active State Bar admission, and deep knowledge of GDPR, CCPA, and global privacy laws.

Qualifications

• Passion for data privacy and prior privacy experience.
• J.D. degree with active State Bar license in the United States.
• 5–8+ years of legal privacy experience with GDPR/CCPA and global frameworks.
• Experience drafting/negotiating data processing agreements and SCCs.
• Strong subject matter expertise, analysis, and client management.
• Ability to manage a high volume of complex, time-sensitive matters independently.

Responsibilities

• Provide legal counsel on data processing agreements with third‑party suppliers and customers.
• Review privacy impact, data protection, and transfer assessments; advise on measures.
• Develop and deliver ongoing privacy training to teams and management.
• Review law enforcement requests for Personal Information and ensure legal sufficiency.
• Collaborate with Trust & Safety on transparency reports and related matters.
• Draft/update privacy documentation in line with state, federal, and international law.
• Lead investigations into Personal Information incidents as legal lead.
• Support maturation of a strategic privacy program and AI governance.
• Advise on use, deployment, and governance of AI/ML with evolving laws and standards.
• Coordinate with IT, product development, and data science to address AI risks.
• Partner with Government and Regulatory Affairs to address emerging privacy requirements.
