Job summary

State of South Carolina seeks a Senior Chaplain to organize and oversee a comprehensive multi-faith religious program for inmates at a level two facility. You will supervise a Chaplain II and coordinate worship, sacraments, counseling, visitation and religious education.

The role requires collaboration with diverse faith volunteers and close work with institutional operations and staff. Four weeks of SCDC Basic Training are required on hire.

Qualifications

• Master of Divinity or equivalent from an accredited theological school.
• Clinical pastoral education and/or work experience in a clinical pastoral setting.
• Ordination as a priest, minister or rabbi with ecclesiastical endorsement.
• One year of clinical pastoral education and one year of pastoral experience.

Responsibilities

• Organize, develop and monitor a comprehensive institutional multi-faith religious program for inmates.
• Supervise a Chaplain II.
• Provide weekly worship, sacraments, crisis counseling, individual and group pastoral counseling, visitation and religious education.
• Work with religious volunteers from various denominational and faith groups.
• Collaborate closely with institutional operations, program and administrative staff.
