Job summary

The South Carolina Department of Corrections is seeking a chaplain to organize and oversee a comprehensive multi-faith program for inmates at Broad River Correctional Institution. The role includes weekly worship, sacraments, crisis and pastoral counseling, visitation, religious education and coordination with external religious volunteers.

The candidate will work closely with institutional staff and must complete SCDC Basic Training and meet the minimum education and CPE requirements, including

Qualifications

• Master of Divinity or equivalent from an accredited theological school
• Ordination as a priest, minister, or Rabbi with ecclesiastical endorsement
• Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE); two CPE units completed (ACPE certified)

Responsibilities

• Organize, develop and monitor a comprehensive multi-faith religious program for inmates at Broad River Correctional Institution
• Provide weekly worship services, sacraments, crisis counseling, and pastoral counseling
• Offer visitation, religious education and other related religious activities
• Collaborate with community religious volunteers from diverse denominations
• Coordinate with institutional operations, programs and administrative staff
