Job summary

South Carolina Department of Corrections is seeking a Senior Chaplain to lead a comprehensive, multi-faith religious program for inmates in a level two facility. The role includes supervising a Chaplain II and delivering weekly worship, sacraments, counseling, visitation and religious education.

Must complete four weeks of SCDC Basic Training after hire and work with volunteers from diverse faith groups, coordinating with operations and staff to support the inmate population.

Qualifications

• Master of Divinity or equivalent from an accredited theological school.
• Ordination as a priest, minister, or rabbi with current ecclesiastical endorsement.
• Clinical pastoral education and pastoral experience.

Responsibilities

• Organize, develop and monitor a comprehensive multi-faith program for inmates.
• Supervise a Chaplain II."
• Provide weekly worship, sacraments, crisis counseling, individual and group pastoral counseling, visitation, religious education and other activities.
• Collaborate with religious volunteers from diverse denominations and faith traditions.
• Coordinate with institutional operations, program and administrative staff.
