Senior / Principal Structural Engineer (PE required)
Location: Denver, CO (relocation assistance not provided at this time)
Duration: This is a contract role
Within the Denver, CO Structural Engineering team, the Senior / Principal Structural Engineer will provide structural engineering services, performing structural analysis and design calculations in conformance with engineering principles, industry standards, and applicable codes on small to mid-capital projects for our client and its customers.
Responsibilities:
- Perform structural engineering design, including preparation, review, and checking of engineering calculations and design sketches for steel structures, equipment foundations, piling, and concrete foundations for accuracy. Support the processes for checking, peer reviews, and incorporation of comments and findings.
- Incorporate generally accepted engineering and design practices, techniques, and relevant regulatory requirements to ensure technical excellence in deliverables per customer specifications.
- Support colleagues by fostering positive working relationships and build positive relationships with external parties such as customers, suppliers, and contractors.
- Perform job site walk-downs to observe new construction and assess existing conditions for suitability to retrofit or change of use.
- Participate in department/discipline functions related to quality control of deliverables, staying current with codes, standards, and advancing technologies related to engineering delivery and construction materials.
- Compile data and compute material quantities related to structural disciplines.
- Ensure that discipline technical work and team activities meet all health, safety, environmental, and security requirements.
- Gather data from multiple sources and prepare engineering studies, analyses, calculations, etc., and craft recommendations with final documentation.
- Identify technical issues, define and implement innovative solutions, evaluate pros and cons, and make recommendations through official project documents such as technical queries and deviations.
- Create final documentation incorporating all relevant information and pursue customer approval. Review similar documentation to assist others and review/authorize peer work.
- Seek input from knowledgeable sources and participate in constructability, operability, and maintainability reviews to incorporate requirements into engineering design.
Technical/Industry Experience Requirements:
- A minimum of 8 years’ relevant experience in oil and gas, mining, metals, or related projects.
- Good understanding of ASCE 7, ACI 318, AISC 360, and IBC standards.
- Working knowledge of PIP standards.
- Familiarity with Staad, LPile, MathCAD, and MS Office suite.
- Basic knowledge of AutoCAD 2D and Navisworks 3D; AutoCAD 3D knowledge is a plus.
- Willingness to perform job site visits as required, with occasional local travel up to 20%.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills in English, including engineering vocabulary and technical report writing.
- Must have a current Colorado PE license or a PE license in another state with the ability to obtain a Colorado PE license. SE license in at least one state.
Education – Qualifications, Accreditation, Training:
Required: Bachelor’s degree in Civil/Structural Engineering with a structural emphasis. A Master’s degree is preferred but not required.
