Be our next Civil Engineer, Mining (Independent Contractor)
Your work environment at EXP
In this role, you will be part of the Mining team, based in Denver, Colorado, or Montana (Remote).
What a day at EXP has in store for you
- Preparing proposals for geotechnical services for civil engineering projects, including cost estimates and timelines;
- Providing geotechnical services to the Mine Waste unit, including modeling, analyses, design, investigations, and liaising with external laboratories;
- Conducting conceptual, pre-feasibility, and feasibility studies for tailings and mine waste facilities;
- Planning and executing assignments requiring broad geotechnical engineering knowledge and interdisciplinary understanding;
- Applying standard procedures, modifications, and developed methods for project analysis;
- Coordinating with clients, suppliers, and third parties to meet project objectives;
- Managing projects, including briefing staff, scheduling, and budget control;
- Directing field activities such as investigations, monitoring, and testing;
- Attending project meetings and site inspections as needed;
- Reviewing and interpreting geotechnical monitoring data;
- Analyzing data through computer analysis;
- Writing and reviewing technical reports;
- Collaborating with senior staff on complex issues;
- Performing independent studies and analyses;
- Working independently with minimal supervision;
- Liaising with stakeholders;
- Continuing technical skills development and mentoring others.
What your experience looks like
- Bachelor’s Degree in Geotechnical, Civil, or Geological Engineering; postgraduate degree preferred;
- At least 5 years of relevant geotechnical engineering experience, preferably in consulting;
- 5 years experience with tailings, dam, and mine waste management;
- Dam and safety inspection experience;
- Professional Engineer (PE) license required;
- Development of comprehensive scopes of work tailored to client requirements;
- Application of high-level engineering principles;
- Ensuring standards and criteria are met;
- Budget management, including scope adjustments and reporting;
- Managing multiple projects simultaneously;
- Experience with complex investigations and design;
- Mentoring junior staff;
- Strong communication skills in English;
- Diplomacy and tact in interactions;
- Excellent organizational and time management skills;
- Problem-solving skills;
- Familiarity with construction procedures;
- Teamwork ability;
- Advanced computer analysis skills;
- Valid driver’s license and vehicle.
