Job summary

Collins Aerospace, an RTX company, seeks a Sr Principal Software Engineer to join the Strategic Communication Software Engineering Department onsite in Largo, FL. The role requires an active DoD secret clearance and leadership in software development across architecture, design, integration, testing, and field support.

You will collaborate with cross‑functional teams, improve software processes toward SEI maturity, and guide junior engineers while maintaining a strong focus on real‑time embedded

Qualifications

• Active and transferable U.S. government issued security clearance is required prior to start date.
• U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.
• Experience with software development lifecycle in multiple phases.
• Experience in technical or team leadership roles (SW Architect, SW Lead).
• Experience with ADA, C/C++, Java.
• Experience with RTOS and embedded programming; processor/board architecture.
• Linux, VxWorks or other RTOS knowledge.
• UML and OOA/D experience.
• Collaborative cross‑disciplinary environment experience; stakeholder communication.
• Mentoring junior engineers.
• Typically requires STEM degree with 10+ years (or advanced degree and 8+ years).

Responsibilities

• Participate in cross‑disciplined integrated product teams using agile methods.
• Own full lifecycle of product development from architecture to field support.
• Work with engineering maturity models per SEI standards.
• Maintain an on‑site presence in Largo, FL.
