Job summary

Collins Aerospace in Cedar Rapids, IA seeks a Sr. Principal Software Engineer in the Display Products Department to design, develop, and verify display software for avionics across bare metal and RTOS platforms.

You will lead certification efforts under DO-178, provide technical leadership to software teams, mentor engineers, ensure process alignment, and advance best practices while delivering safe, efficient avionics solutions.

Qualifications

• Degree in STEM; minimum 10 years of relevant experience.
• Embedded C++ with bare-metal and BSP or platform-level software.
• Experience certifying software to DO-178 B/C Levels A or B.
• Experience qualifying software tools to DO-330.

Responsibilities

• Define development plans, ensure DO-178 compliance and lead certification efforts through audits.
• Provide technical leadership to software teams and drive high-quality solutions with architectural inputs.
• Provide guidance and coaching to engineers growing their software skills.
• Ensure consistency with Collins Aerospace engineering processes and best practices.
• Communicate progress, risks, and opportunities clearly to stakeholders.
