Job summary

RTX in Cedar Rapids, IA is seeking a Senior Principal Software Engineer for Display Products to design, develop, and verify advanced avionics display software across bare metal and RTOS platforms. You will contribute to safety-critical systems and lead certification efforts for DO-178 compliance.

You will mentor engineers, drive standard methodologies, and collaborate across Collins Aerospace teams to deliver robust, high-quality solutions.

Qualifications

• Requires STEM degree and minimum 10 years of experience or an Advanced Degree.
• Embedded C++ and bare-metal or platform-level software experience.
• Experience with RTOS such as LynxOS, VxWorks, or Green Hills.
• Experience certifying software to DO-178 B/C Levels A or B and DO-330.
• Strong leadership, communication, and mentoring skills.
• Ability to drive changes and best practices across teams.

Responsibilities

• Define and ensure compliance with DO-178 certification plans and audits.
• Provide technical leadership to software teams and architectural input.
• Mentor engineers to grow software skills.
• Ensure consistency with Collins Aerospace processes.
• Drive best practices in software project execution.
• Communicate progress, risks, and opportunities clearly.
