Job summary

Collins Aerospace, part of RTX, seeks a Senior Principal Software Engineer to join the mission sensors, weapons, and IFF avionics software team in Cedar Rapids. You will translate requirements into robust software and verification strategies within an Agile environment, shaping critical aerospace solutions.

The role emphasizes Python-based test automation, Ada/C development, and hands-on integration across complex systems, with potential for leadership growth and cross-functional impact.

Qualifications

• Typically requires a STEM degree with 10+ years of experience or an advanced degree with 7+ years of experience.
• Experience working within Agile development teams.
• Experience developing software requirements (heavy focus).
• Experience with test automation using Python (heavy focus).
• Experience with Ada/C software development.
• Experience with engineering tools such as DOORS, PREP, TLBD, ALM, JIRA, Enterprise Architect, or similar.
• Hands-on experience in systems and software integration for complex hardware/software systems.

Responsibilities

• Support software engineering activities within an Agile development environment and translate requirements into software/test strategies.
• Develop automated and semi-automated test scripts using Python to validate software functionality.
• Update and maintain software products using Ada/C.
• Verify software builds in lab environments and support formal verification events.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to refine system requirements and designs.
• Present technical progress to Agile teams and leadership.
• Improve test development processes and ensure compliance with standards.
• Navigate bids and pursuits per Collins processes.
• Mentor junior engineers as a SME.
