Job Title: Principal Scientist I

Location: Cambridge, MA

About the Job

Are you ready to shape the future of medicine? The race is on to speed up drug discovery and development to find answers for patients and their families. Your skills could be critical in helping our teams accelerate progress.

Sanofi Oncology Therapeutic Area is seeking an experienced computational biologist/bioinformatician to join our team with a focus on reprogramming the tumor microenvironment and immune system to treat tumors. This hands-on role will analyze patient datasets including bulk RNAseq, single cell RNAseq/CITEseq, and flow cytometry to identify cell types, signaling pathways, and targets for overcoming immunosuppression.

You will work as an integral part of project teams in research and development to identify targets, understand compound activities, and develop and test actionable biomarker strategies for immuno-oncology programs. You will analyze patient genomic and transcriptomic data from internal studies, collaborations, and public sources to identify mechanisms and targets for immune-based, anti-cancer therapies. Designing, interpreting, and analyzing bulk and single cell NGS profiling experiments to characterize drug mechanisms and identify biomarkers will be key. You will present your work internally and externally through publications and presentations. The ability to work independently and collaboratively across disciplines is essential. This position is based within the Immuno-Oncology Cell Therapy Cluster in Cambridge, MA.

We are an innovative global healthcare company with a purpose: to chase the miracles of science to improve people’s lives. We offer opportunities to grow your career, explore new connections, and push your limits. Ready to get started?

Main Responsibilities
  • Support multiple therapeutic programs and target discovery efforts, reporting directly to the Cluster Head.
  • Develop and execute computational strategies for disease characterization from datasets to propose targets and drug combinations.
  • Design and implement computational algorithms to analyze multi-omics, multi-modal, and high-content data for target identification, patient stratification, response prediction, and assay development.
  • Create actionable biomarker plans (e.g., for selection, PD, efficacy biomarkers) and support knowledge transfer to Translational Medicine.
  • Apply scientific expertise to design, direct, and analyze experiments supporting research programs.
  • Engage proactively with colleagues across departments and disciplines.
About You
Basic Qualifications
  • Ph.D. in biology, statistics, biophysics, or bioinformatics with emphasis on high-dimensional biological data analysis; at least 5 years of pharmaceutical or biotech experience in oncology, immunology, or related fields.
  • Proven expertise in analyzing multi-modal, multi-dimensional, large-scale biological data, with a strong understanding of platforms like flow cytometry, immunoassays, NGS, single-cell sequencing, and proteomics.
  • Experience using patient and preclinical NGS data for target selection or biomarker strategies.
  • Expertise in Oncology or Immune-Oncology.
  • Experience in multi-disciplinary collaborations.
  • Proficiency in bioinformatics using R or Python.
  • Knowledge of standard bioinformatic methods and reference datasets.
  • Ability to work independently and with teams across research and Translational Medicine.
