About The Lilly Medicine Foundry

Lilly announced a $4.5 billion investment to create the Lilly Medicine Foundry, a pioneering center for advanced manufacturing and drug development. This facility will combine research and manufacturing, enabling Lilly to develop innovative solutions, optimize processes, increase capacity, and reduce costs and environmental impact.

Position Summary

The Senior Principal, Process Safety Engineer provides technical leadership in developing, implementing, and maintaining Lilly’s Global Process Safety Management programs for the Foundry.

Key Responsibilities

• Enhance process safety performance by influencing behaviors and culture.
• Provide expertise in process safety activities such as risk assessments, emergency management, and compliance programs.
• Participate in hazard assessments for capital projects and facility design.
• Develop and implement safety programs, procedures, and training.
• Mentor and influence cross-functional teams to ensure safety program success.
• Lead governance, audits, inspections, and regulatory interactions.
• Support event and change management processes.
• Contribute to corporate safety guidelines and external benchmarking.

Basic Qualifications

• 6-8 years of safety or related experience supporting chemical processes.
• Technical expertise in chemical process operations and safety regulations.
• Understanding of change management and equipment reliability.
• Experience in technical writing, leadership, and communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Engineering license or safety certification.
• Experience with PSM in capital projects, global audits, and root cause analysis.

Education

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering, occupational safety, or related field.

Additional Information

• Completion of Learning Plan – Foundry required.
• Work involves entering manufacturing areas with PPE requirements.
• Position based in Lebanon, IN, with flexibility to work from Indianapolis through 2026.
