Job summary

General Dynamics Ordnance and Tactical Systems is seeking a Sr. Principal Mechanical Engineer to join the Solid Rocket Motor Engineering Team. You will conduct thermal analysis of motor components and collaborate with cross-disciplinary teams in a fast-paced, high-stakes environment.

The role offers a 9/80 schedule and can be remote or located at our Huntsville, AL or Hampton, AR facilities, with up to 25% travel. Strong analytical and communication skills are essential for success.

Qualifications

• Associate's Degree and 10–12 years of engineering experience.
• Engineering degree required; CAD/CAE experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Perform detailed thermal analysis of solid rocket motor components.
• Size internal insulation, external thermal protection systems, and structural insulators.
• Validate models with test data; develop predictive ablation and erosion models.
• Define sub-scale tests for material properties of insulators and ablators.
• Evaluate and recommend materials and thermal protection systems for solid rocket motors
• Create reports and presentations documenting analysis and supporting work.
• Present to peers and customers in design reviews.
