Job summary

Medtronic in the United States is seeking a Senior Principal Software Engineer - Core Infrastructure for the Prism Mapping platform. You will set the technical direction and lead architecture across runtime, IPC, device communication, and services to support real-time data flows in clinical workflows.

You will mentor engineers, collaborate with hardware, systems, and quality teams, and help shape multi-release roadmaps while upholding regulatory requirements for medical devices.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree with 10+ years of relevant experience, or Master’s with 8+ years, or PhD with 6+ years.
• Experience with Python and C++ in real-time or device-integrated systems.
• Proven track record leading large, cross-functional technical initiatives.
• Experience with Linux systems programming and real-time architecture.

Responsibilities

• Lead architecture for Prism Mapping platform’s foundational software: runtime, IPC, device communication, and services.
• Define multi-release direction to scale platform with new clinical capabilities and hardware.
• Set engineering bar for reliability, observability, performance, and safety.
• Lead design and delivery of major subsystems and large technical initiatives.
• Exercise broad technical judgment on complex system and architectural problems.
• Drive alignment across software, systems, quality, product, and other teams.
• Promote software design patterns, standards, and best practices.
• Provide technical leadership through mentoring, reviews, and guidance.
• Identify and drive improvements in architecture and development processes.
• Shape technical roadmap and architectural direction for subsystems.
• Communicate tradeoffs, risks and recommendations to stakeholders.
