Job summary

MACOM in Newport Beach, CA is seeking a Principal Hardware Engineer to design, validate, and document high‑speed interconnect boards and reference designs for data center, telecom, and defense applications.

You will drive feasibility analyses, specify PCB electrical characteristics, perform SI/PI analysis, and mentor junior engineers while collaborating with cross‑functional teams and external vendors.

Qualifications

• PhD with 4+ years or MS in Electrical Engineering with 6+ years or BSEE with 8+ years of experience.
• Strong understanding of transmission line theory, impedance control, crosstalk and jitter.
• Proficiency in SI simulation tools and lab equipment.
• Experience with high-speed interfaces such as PCIe, DDR, USB, Ethernet, etc.

Responsibilities

• Design complex interconnects and document reference designs for internal and customer use.
• Lead feasibility analyses at PCB definition phase; specify electrical characteristics and PCB performance.
• Perform SI/PI analyses and lab measurements; validate results with simulations.
• Mentor junior engineers and drive board design reviews with cross-functional teams.
