Job summary

Northrop Grumman’s Mission Systems division seeks a Sr. Principal Digital Engineer to advance digital transformation of critical defense products.

You will design, verify and test FPGA-based systems and firmware, collaborating across teams to ensure security, timing and performance targets are met. You will work within SWDT technologies, in a role that requires DoD familiarity, proactive problem solving, and strong independent initiative.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related STEM field with 7+ years of related experience.
• U.S. Citizenship is required.
• Must be able to obtain a Secret Clearance.
• Secret Clearance is required to start.
• Must have 5 years of experience with VHDL.
• Must have 5 years of experience with schematic and programmable logic tools such as AMD/Xilinx, Vivado, Altera/Quartus.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently and take initiative.
• Must have 5 years of experience with firmware development: specification, design, implementation, integration, debug and maintenance.

Responsibilities

• Design, verification, simulation and testing of FPGAs.
• Use modeling and simulation tools to expedite development and testing of firmware updates.
• Develop test plans and implement rigorous testing and validation processes for digital designs.
• Adhere to coding standards and revision control practices.
• Conduct tests using high-speed oscilloscopes and FPGA debugging tools.
• Create engineering change orders and perform analyses (power, signal integrity).
• Provide support for Systems Integration and Test operations.
• Lead on-site testing of digital designs.
