Job summary

Collins Aerospace, a RTX company, is seeking a Senior Engineer, Structural Engineering in Winston-Salem, NC. You will analyze structural data, develop FEA models, and create substantiation reports to support certification efforts for seating components.

The role requires a strong background in mechanical/ aerospace engineering and at least 7–10 years in structural analysis, with expertise in Hypermesh, LS-DYNA, and related CAE tools. Onsite in Winston-Salem, with competitive benefits.

Qualifications

  • BS or higher in Mechanical, Aerospace, Civil or related field with 10+ years in structural engineering or equivalent.
  • 7+ years with FEA modeling, interpreting results, and selecting best solutions.
  • Experience reducing testing and cert costs via analysis.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze structural data to ensure FAA/aircraft acceptance.
  • Develop and validate finite element models for design and certification data.
  • Create substantiation reports for changes and provide feedback to design engineers.
  • Develop, implement test procedures to obtain certifiable data.

What YOU will do
  • Analyze and check structural engineering data produced by other engineering groups to evaluate structural integrity and ensure it meets the structural requirements for FAA and aircraft manufacturer acceptance as approved data.
  • Develop finite element models to aid in the development of design and certification data.
  • Generate stress analysis notes in a usable, traceable file that serves as a historical substantiation record to the seating component modifications.
  • Serve as the primary focal point for Collins design engineers to provide them with feedback regarding structural substantiation issues.
  • Create and develop structural substantiation reports that are used to substantiate changes.
  • Create, develop, and implement test procedures as required to obtain certifiable allowable data for use by the company.
  • Provide input and suggestions for continuous improvement of various department procedures, control flows and systems.
  • Provide technical support to Collins production during the manufacturing and installation phases of Collins developed designs.
  • Develop expertise on aircraft seats design concepts, industry design standards, FAR’s and drafting techniques.
Qualifications
  • Must possess at least a bachelor's degree or its equivalent in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Automobile Engineering, Civil Engineering or related field and at least 10 years of progressive experience as a Structural Engineer, Stress Engineer, FEA Analyst, Crash Safety Engineer, CAE Engineer or related role.
  • In the alternative, must possess at least a master’s degree or its equivalent in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Automobile Engineering, Civil Engineering or related field and at least 7 years of experience as a Structural Engineer, Stress Engineer, FEA Analyst, Crash Safety Engineer, CAE Engineer or related role would be acceptable.
  • Must possess at least 7 years of experience with translating the actual problem to the Finite Element Analysis (FEA) model, interpreting analysis results and selecting the best solution.
  • Must possess at least 7 years of experience with investigating opportunities to limit required testing and reduce certification costs with FEA analysis.
  • Must possess at least 7 years of experience with performing dynamic simulation with VATD Humanetics models.
  • Must possess at least 7 years of experience with CAE software including Hypermesh, LS-DYNA, Hyperview/LS-PREPOST.
  • Non-US Person - Must be authorized to work in the U.S. without the company’s immigration sponsorship now or in the future. The company will not offer immigration sponsorship for this position.
  • The company will not seek an export authorization for this role.

Onsite: Employees who are working in Onsite roles will work onsite. This includes all production and maintenance employees, as they are essential to the development of our products.

The salary range is $113,506.00 to $251,600.00 USD per year. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels.
