Job summary

Collins Aerospace in Cedar Rapids, IA, seeks a Senior Principal Engineer, Software Engineering, to lead complex testing, design and integration of avionics software. You will collaborate across teams to ensure robust software development and certification processes, including ARP4754/DO-178/DO-330.

The role requires 10+ years in aerospace software, with hands-on experience in Python/Java/C++, AI/ML, Kubernetes, and CI/CD, and a strong track record in avionics certification.

Qualifications

  • Must possess at least a bachelor’s degree or its equivalent in Computer Science or related field with 10+ years of progressive software engineering experience in Aerospace.
  • Alternatively, a master’s degree with 7+ years of Aerospace software engineering experience is acceptable.
  • Must have at least 5 years of experience leading Avionics Systems and Software Certification for ARP4754, DO-178 and DO-330.
  • Must have at least 2 years of experience with Python, Java or C++.
  • Must have at least 2 years of experience with AI/ML, process automation and Kubernetes architecture.
  • Must have at least 2 years of experience with DevOps pipelines and CI/CD.
  • Non-US Persons must be authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, coordinate and conduct complex tests and debug control and diagnostic systems with logical and mathematical solutions.
  • Collaborate with project teams in planning, design, development of electronic data processing systems for product and commercial software.
  • Manage program level scope, change management and schedules to handle dependencies at system, product and component levels.

  • Recommend changes in software production components to improve activities.
  • Determine end-user needs by analyzing system capabilities to resolve problems and input data acquisition.

What YOU will do
  • Develop, coordinate and conduct complex tests and debug control and diagnostic systems that contain logical and mathematical solutions.
  • Conduct multidisciplinary research and collaborate with other project team members in the planning, design, development and utilization of electronic data processing systems for product and commercial software to ensure smooth operations on software engineering activities.
  • Develop and manage program level scope and change management, as well as program level schedule, ensuring critical dependencies are managed by the team at the appropriate system, product and component level.
  • Design and implement build procedures that are used to support hardware and software product development and function.
  • Recommend changes in the selection and application of software production components to improve and develop software engineering activities.
  • Determine end-user needs by analyzing system capabilities to resolve problems on program intent, output requirements and input data acquisition.
Qualifications You Must Have
  • Must possess at least a bachelor's degree or its equivalent in Computer Science or related field and at least 10 years of progressive experience as a Software Engineer or related role in the Aerospace industry.
  • In the alternative, must possess at least a master's degree or its equivalent in Computer Science or related field and at least 7 years of experience as a Software Engineer or related role in the Aerospace industry would be acceptable.
  • Must possess at least 5 years of experience leading Avionics Systems and Software Certification for ARP4754, DO178 and DO330.
  • Must possess at least 2 years of experience with programming languages including Python, Java, or C++.
  • Must possess at least 2 years of experience with Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, process automation and Kubernetes architecture.
  • Must possess at least 2 years of experience with Dev Op Pipeline and Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment (CI/CD).
  • Non-US Person - Must be authorized to work in the U.S. without the company's immigration sponsorship now or in the future. The company will not offer immigration sponsorship for this position. The company will not seek an export authorization for this role.
Onsite:

Employees who are working in Onsite roles will work onsite. This includes all production and maintenance employees, as they are essential to the development of our products.

The salary range is $135,803.00 to $251,600.00 USD per year.

The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate's work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
