Job summary

Collins Aerospace in Cedar Rapids, IA, is hiring a Principal Engineer, Software Engineering to lead embedded avionics software development and testing. You will design, implement and verify software for flight display and avionics applications, collaborating on requirements and architecture.

Applicants should have 8+ years in aerospace software or 5+ years with a master's degree, DO-178C/ARINC experience, and strong C programming and model-based development with MATLAB/Simulink.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or related field with significant aerospace software experience.
  • Minimum 5–8 years of software engineering in aerospace; Do-178C/DO-330/331/332 and FAA SOI knowledge.
  • Experience defining and validating system/software requirements and architecture prototyping.
  • Strong embedded C programming and hardware-software integration.
  • Experience with ARINC communications (ARINC 429/661/664/615A) and model-based development using MATLAB/Simulink.

What YOU Will Do
  • Responsible for applications including Primary Flight Displays, Maps, Windows Manager and Video. Maintain applications and work with Model Based software development with Simulink and testing/verification using python and harness environments using C/C++.
  • Architect, design, develop and test embedded software in avionics products. Collaborate on software requirements and design.
  • Implement and test software.
  • Solve complex software and systems problems.
  • Design and implement build procedures that are used to support hardware and software product development and use.
  • Design, develop, document, test and design control and diagnostic systems that contain logical and mathematical solutions.
  • Conduct multidisciplinary research and collaborate with equipment designers in the planning, design, development and utilization of electronic data processing systems for product and commercial software.
  • Determine end-user needs by analyzing system capabilities to resolve problems on program intent, output requirements and input data acquisition.
Qualifications You Must Have
  • Must possess at least a bachelor's degree or its equivalent in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or related field and at least 8 years of progressive experience as a Software Engineer or related role in the aerospace industry. In the alternative, must possess at least a master’s degree or its equivalent in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or related field and at least 5 years of experience as a Software Engineer or related role in the aerospace industry.
  • Must possess at least 5 years of experience with RTCA DO-178C Certification, DO-330, 331, 332, FAA SOI, TCR Audits, TSO Certification for safety critical airworthy embedded systems.
  • Must possess at least 5 years of experience with defining, validating system/software requirements, application architecture prototyping, low level design and development.
  • Must possess at least 5 years of experience with ARINC communications including ARINC 429, 661, 664 and 615A.
  • Must possess at least 5 years of experience with Embedded C programming, debugging, troubleshooting hardware-software system integration.
  • Must possess at least 5 years of experience in developing avionics software with Visual Studio, VAPs graphics, Human Machine Interface design, Python & Model based development using MATLAB Simulink.

The salary range is $135,803.00 to $204,500.00 USD per year. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
