Job summary

Riverside Insights is seeking a principal engineer to architect and deliver a new enterprise-grade platform for K-12 assessment, data, and delivery at scale.

You'll own the full stack, build the team, and partner with product, psychometrics, and content to migrate millions of students onto the platform by 2028, while maintaining security and regulatory compliance in FERPA/COPPA environments.

Qualifications

• Has worked as a principal engineer or architect on large, complex, enterprise-grade production systems.
• Led a 0-to-1, B2B platform build as the senior technical owner.
• Built and led a team to meet ambitious goals.
• Senior technical decision-maker on a project for at least 24 months.
• Experience architecting and scaling production systems on AWS.
• Experience operating in a regulated data environment (FERPA, COPPA, HIPAA, SOC 2, or similar).
• Full-stack fluency across frontend, backend, architecture, DevOps, and testing.
• Makes agentic coding tools and AI-assisted development the default way you build, not an add-on.

Responsibilities

• Lead the 0-to-1 build, own architecture, construction, and testing of Reach platform through a Fall 2027 pilot, and the next-generation CogAT assessment through full 2028 launch.
• Architect for B2B scale, designing a complex platform for real production volume and institutional buyers.
• Build your team within 60 days, deep on migration plan and hiring budget.
• Own the first migration wave with day-one experience better than the prior system.
• Stay hands-on, coding alongside your team.
• Own build-vs-buy-vs-partner calls on core dependencies with cost and risk-informed recommendations.
• Set the standard for AI-native engineering at Riverside.
• Own technical roadmap execution translating product roadmap into technical plans.
• Partner across the business with regular demos and progress updates.
