Job summary

Baxter is seeking a Senior Principal Software Engineer to join our team working on embedded software for advanced medical monitors. You will design, implement, document, and sustain software products that save lives worldwide, guiding a small team and collaborating with software developers to deliver robust solutions.

You will own the full development lifecycle, drive technology choices, address regulatory requirements, and champion security-by-design and quality.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of embedded software experience in regulated or medical device systems.
• Strong expertise in embedded C/C++, RTOS, and Linux kernel/driver development.
• Proven track record leading engineers and cross-functional teams.
• Experience with Agile/Lean and risk management in product lifecycles.

Responsibilities

• Own end-to-end software lifecycle for medical device products from requirements to sustaining support.
• Define roadmaps and architecture strategies aligned with regulatory requirements.
• Identify and mitigate product-level technical risks with cross-functional teams.
• Provide technical leadership across development, verification, integration, and field issue resolution.
• Ensure compliance with medical device standards and design controls.
• Champion quality, security-by-design, and reliability throughout the lifecycle.
• Lead design reviews and mentor engineers; participate in hiring and assessments.
• Collaborate with multiple functions (Quality, Regulatory, Clinical, Manufacturing, etc.) to deliver compliant solutions.
