Rocket Software in the United States is seeking a Senior Principal Software Engineer to lead architecture and implementation for Vertica's core server platform. You will shape技 the long-term technical direction, optimize queries, and drive scalable, high-performance software across distributed environments.

The role requires deep domain expertise in database internals, expert C++ skills, and a strong track record in large-scale analytics.

Qualifications

• Minimum 12 years of software engineering experience.
• Proven track record of successful software innovation and delivery at scale.
• Deep expertise in database engine domains such as query optimization, execution, storage, or infrastructure.
• Expert knowledge of C++ and performance-oriented systems programming.
• Strong understanding of algorithms, data structures, OS, and multi-threaded programming.
• Experience designing and implementing large-scale distributed systems.
• Strong knowledge of SQL and relational database technologies.
• Ability to translate emerging research into production-quality software.
• Ph.D. or Master’s strongly preferred; Bachelor’s degree required.
• Mentoring software engineers and leading cross-functional initiatives.

Responsibilities

• Act as SME across Vertica core server domains including query optimization, distributed execution, storage, and infrastructure.
• Define and drive the architectural direction and component design of core database technologies.
• Synthesize customer requirements and market trends into technical strategy and product requirements.
• Advise on architectural decisions impacting performance, scalability, reliability, and business outcomes.
• Architect complex features for large-scale analytical workloads in distributed environments.
• Lead concurrent, high-performance C++ software development for mission-critical systems.
• Guide evolution of query optimizer, execution engine, and distributed architecture.
• Collaborate with customers, support, and product teams to translate challenges into solutions.
• Mentor engineers and technic leaders, fostering excellence and innovation.
• Communicate complex concepts across the organization and leadership.
