Job summary

Rocket Software Inc. seeks a Senior Principal Software Engineer to lead architectural direction for Vertica’s core server platform. You will shape the design of query optimization, distributed execution, and storage while guiding performance and reliability for large-scale analytics.

You’ll collaborate with engineering, product management, and customers to translate requirements into high-impact capabilities that differentiate Vertica and drive scalable, secure database technology.

Qualifications

Minimum 12 years of software engineering experience developing complex systems software.
Deep expertise in database engine domains including query optimization, execution, storage, and concurrency.
Expert knowledge of C++ and performance-oriented systems programming.
Strong knowledge of algorithms, data structures, operating systems, and multi-threaded programming.
Experience designing and implementing large-scale distributed systems.
Ability to translate customer requirements and market trends into technical direction.

Responsibilities

Act as SME across Vertica core server domains, including query optimization and distributed execution.
Define technical direction and architecture for critical database components.
Synthesize requirements, market trends, and engineering input into product requirements.
Lead design and implementation of high-performance, concurrent C++ software.
Guide testing strategies for functional, performance, and scalability testing.
Collaborate with customers and field teams to translate challenges into solutions.
