Job summary

Preply is seeking a Senior Principal Applied AI Scientist to lead the development of AI-driven personalized learning solutions that power millions of learners worldwide.

You will architect state-of-the-art models, shape Preply's scientific roadmap, and collaborate with a high-caliber team of scientists and engineers. Reporting to the VP of Data and Applied AI, you will influence technology direction and drive scalable, impactful AI initiatives.

Qualifications

• PhD in NLP, IR, ML, or related fields.
• 8+ years of industry experience with deep learning-based NLP, LLM pre-training, and IR methods.
• Strong experience with retrieval models, ranking models, and RAG/LLMs for real-world applications.

Responsibilities

• Innovative R&D: Leverage deep learning, NLP, IR, LLMs and multimodal AI to design scalable learning solutions.
• Scientific leadership: Develop long-term roadmaps aligned with product strategy and business goals; advise on investments and direction.
• Cross-functional collaboration: Partner with applied science, product, and engineering teams to deliver AI solutions that unlock opportunities.
• Mentorship: Guide scientists and engineers, fostering a collaborative research culture at Preply.
• Drive best practices: Establish architecture, roadmaps, and deployment pipelines for ML systems.
