Job description

Senior/Principal Analog Mixed-Signal Design Engineer, microLED Transmitter

Avicena

Location: Sunnyvale, CA, US

Senior/Principal Analog Mixed-Signal Design Engineer, microLED Transmitter

About the Role

Avicena is developing high-speed parallel optical links built from arrays of microLED transmitters and photodetector receivers. We are looking for an analog mixed-signal engineer to design the high-speed drivers that modulate our microLED arrays. You will own driver circuits from specification through post-layout signoff and silicon correlation, working with the TX lead, the optical device team and layout. We are hiring at senior through principal level; title and scope will match experience.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and simulate high-speed microLED driver circuits: output drivers, pre-emphasis and equalization, DACs for drive-level and trim control, bias generation and pulse shaping.
  • Optimize dense driver arrays for matching, supply noise sensitivity and power per lane.
  • Design calibration and trim circuits with the digital team.
  • Work with the optical device team on LED electrical models and drive requirements.
  • Verify designs across PVT and Monte Carlo, and take them through post-layout extraction and signoff with layout.
  • Deliver behavioral models and correlate them with transistor-level results.
  • Support silicon bring-up and correlate measurements with simulation.
At the principal level, you will also
  • Set the technical direction for transmitter circuits and drive architecture trade-offs with the TX lead and system architect.
  • Lead design reviews and define verification and signoff criteria for TX blocks.
  • Mentor engineers and review their designs.
Qualifications
Required
  • MS in Electrical Engineering (or BS with equivalent experience) and 5+ years of analog/mixed-signal design.
  • Taped-out high-speed transmitter or driver circuits, such as laser, VCSEL or LED drivers, or SerDes transmitters.
  • High-speed driver and DAC design experience.
  • Design experience in FinFET or other advanced CMOS processes.
  • Proficiency with Cadence Virtuoso and Spectre, and with post-layout verification.
Preferred
  • Optical transmitter design for laser, VCSEL or LED-based links.
  • Supply integrity and power delivery awareness for large driver arrays.
  • Behavioral modeling in Verilog-A.
  • Hands-on lab characterization.
  • 10+ years with technical leadership of transmitter designs through production (principal level).
Key Competencies
  • Analytical: reasons clearly about speed, power and matching.
  • Ownership: carries a block from specification to silicon.
  • Collaboration: works across device, layout and digital teams.
  • Clear communicator: documents designs and trade-offs concisely.
