Job summary

Macdonald & Company in Dallas seeks an experienced Senior Preconstruction Manager to lead planning, estimating, and development of major commercial construction projects.

You will drive preconstruction from pursuit through buyout, collaborating with owners, architects, consultants, estimators, and senior leadership to deliver competitive, executable plans and ensure a seamless transition to construction.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, or a related field preferred.
• 10+ years of commercial construction experience, with significant experience in preconstruction, estimating, or project management.
• Experience leading preconstruction efforts for large-scale commercial projects.
• Strong understanding of estimating, scheduling, constructability, subcontractor procurement, and construction means and methods.
• Demonstrated ability to manage multiple complex pursuits and projects simultaneously.
• Excellent communication, presentation, negotiation, and relationship-building skills.
• Strong financial and analytical capabilities.
• Proficiency with construction estimating and project management software.
• Ability to read and interpret architectural, structural, MEP, civil, and other construction documents.
• Proven experience working directly with owners, architects, consultants, and subcontractors.
• Strong leadership skills with the ability to mentor and influence teams.

Responsibilities

• Lead preconstruction services for large and complex commercial construction projects.
• Manage projects from early conceptual design through GMP, contract award, and transition to operations.
• Direct estimating, budgeting, value engineering, constructability reviews, and scheduling activities.
• Develop detailed conceptual and competitive estimates while maintaining cost accuracy and market awareness.
• Collaborate with owners, architects, engineers, subcontractors, and consultants throughout the design process.
• Lead design-assist and subcontractor procurement strategies.
• Identify project risks, opportunities, scope gaps, and potential cost or schedule impacts.
• Develop and maintain milestone estimates and project budgets.
• Coordinate value-engineering initiatives while maintaining project quality and owner objectives.
• Prepare and present estimates, budgets, schedules, and other preconstruction deliverables to clients and project stakeholders.
• Participate in project pursuits, interviews, presentations, and client development activities.
• Mentor and develop preconstruction and estimating team members.
• Establish and maintain strong relationships with key subcontractors, design professionals, owners, and industry partners.
• Partner with project executives and operations leadership to ensure a seamless transition from preconstruction to construction.
• Promote a culture of accountability, collaboration, safety, and operational excellence.
