Job summary

Qualus is seeking a Principal Engineer - Power Systems to support our Resource Integration Advisory group with a primary focus on interconnection feasibility studies for new generation, storage, demand, and transmission projects.

The role involves optimizing project size/location, developing power flow, dynamic and short circuit models, and guiding interconnection applications through the study process, while interfacing with the host transmission operator and reviewing their reports.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical, Civil, or Mechanical Engineering.
• 12+ years of Electrical Engineering experience in the power industry.
• Experience with EMT Modeling using PSCAD.
• Knowledge of PSSE and PSLF power systems analysis tools and models.
• Knowledge of transmission systems in Eastern Interconnection, ERCOT and WECC.

Responsibilities

• Perform interconnection feasibility studies for new generation, storage, demand and transmission projects.
• Optimize the size and location of new generation, storage, demand and transmission projects.
• Prepare interconnection applications including development of power flow, dynamic and short-circuit models.
• Guide interconnection applications through the full interconnection study process.
• Interface with the host transmission operator and scrutinize their study reports.
• Perform general power system studies.
