Job summary

Fervo Energy in Houston, TX seeks a Senior Electrical Power System Studies Engineer to serve as the technical authority for electrical system studies supporting geothermal power plant development and interconnections. You will use PSCAD, PSLF, and ETAP to perform a wide range of analyses and mentor junior engineers across cross‑functional teams.

You will lead interconnection study efforts with RTOs/ISOs, contribute to standards and procedures, maintain plant models, and support reliability

Qualifications

• MS in Electrical Engineering or related discipline.
• 8+ years of experience in power systems engineering for generation, transmission, or large facilities.
• Hands-on proficiency in PSCAD for EMT and transient overvoltage studies.
• Hands-on proficiency in PSLF and/or ETAP for dynamic stability and power flow.
• ETAP proficiency for short circuit analysis, protection coordination, and arc flash energy studies per IEEE 1584.
• Experience with grid interconnection studies and familiarity with FERC/NERC/regional processes.
• Ability to produce professional-quality study reports and clearly communicate findings.
• Strong teamwork and mentoring abilities.

Responsibilities

• Perform transient overvoltage studies using PSCAD to evaluate switching transients and hazards.
• Conduct dynamic stability studies in PSLF or PSSE and ETAP; model generators and voltage/frequency response.
• Execute power flow studies to assess operating conditions and voltage profiles across plant and transmission configurations.
• Perform short circuit analysis in ETAP and size equipment with protective device ratings.
• Develop protection system studies and relay coordination for generation and transmission Systems.
• Conduct arc flash energy analysis per IEEE 1584 and prepare hazard labels.
• Lead and support interconnection study processes with RTOs/ISOs; validate generator models per MOD standards.
• Maintain ETAP/PSLF/PSCAD models reflecting as-built conditions; produce clear study reports.
