Job summary

Electric Power Engineers seeks a Senior Engineer with EMT modelling and power system study expertise to join our Utilities team. You will work with senior leadership to support growth, coach staff, and deliver client-focused grid modeling solutions.

Responsibilities include EMT studies, model development, and steady state analyses, with proficiency in PSCAD/PSSE and related tools. Remote US work is supported with occasional travel.

Qualifications

  • 4+ years of experience in power system modelling and power system studies.
  • Bachelor’s or higher degree in Electrical Engineering with power system emphasis.
  • Experience with control system tuning and HVDC is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Perform EMT studies and power system analyses including various dynamic phenomena.
  • Develop local EMT models and benchmark PSCAD/PSSE models.
  • Conduct steady state studies such as load flow and short circuit.
  • Lead, teach and mentor junior Power Systems Engineers.
  • Engage with clients to deliver advisory support and manage project quality and budgets.

Overview

We are designing the grid of the future!

EPE is in search of a Senior Engineer with a background in EMT modelling and power system studies to join our growing Utilities team. In this role you will work closely with senior leadership to support our growth strategy and provide subject matter expertise both internally through coaching and developing staff as well as externally to our clients.

Responsibilities

How you can make an impact:

  • Electro-magnetic Transient (EMT) Studies: Perform power system studies such as subsynchronous resonance, control interaction, ferroresonance, temporary overvoltage (TOV), switching overvoltage (SOV), insulation coordination, harmonic, transient recovery voltage (TRV), energization, lightning etc.
  • Model Development: Develop local system EMT models, perform disturbance ride-through model tuning and PSCAD/PSSE model benchmarking.
  • Steady State Studies: Perform steady state studies such as load flow and short circuit.
  • Technology: Proficiency in power system modelling software such as PSCAD, EMTP, PSSE, Digsilent PowerFactory, ETAP, CYMCAP, or equivalents.
  • Compliance: Strong understanding of relevant industry standards such as IEEE/IEC/CICRE.
  • Client Engagement: Provide advisory support to generation, large load and merchant transmission developers. Take responsibility for the timely completion of projects assigned while meeting all project quality and budget objectives.
  • Technical Leadership: Lead, teach and mentor junior level Power Systems Engineers.
Qualifications
