Job summary

TAR builds fully islanded, behind-the-meter microgrids powering AI data centers in West Texas. As Principal Engineer, Power Systems Controls, you own how the power electronics behave in an inverter-dominant island and the control architecture tying assets together.

You translate architecture into specifications, validate OEM firmware boundaries, and ensure the integrated plant holds frequency and voltage 24/7 without utility support, while driving multi-vendor integration and field

Qualifications

• BSEE, power systems, or related STEM discipline.
• 7-10+ years in utility-scale solar, BESS, or power electronics with hands-on SLD ownership.
• Proficiency in electrical CAD and study tools for one-line and studies.

Responsibilities

• Own the control hierarchy architecture for the islanded plant and write functional specs for multi-vendor integration.
• Specify, evaluate, and validate grid-forming inverters and BESS PCS; model and verify GFM control behavior.
• Run islanded power-system studies: load flow, short-circuit, protection coordination, grounding, load follow.
• Drive OEM technical engagement on PCS, BESS, and controls; track FEOC-compliant equipment options.
• Support permitting, interconnection, and electrical analysis with stakeholders.
• Write commissioning and validation test plans; assist bring-up, acceptance testing, and field troubleshooting.
