Job summary

City of Austin's Decker Power Plant in Austin, TX is seeking a Senior Power Plant Technician to master electrical, mechanical, and instrumentation/control maintenance. The role includes evaluating startup procedures, operating the DCS and other control systems, and ensuring reliable electric generation.

You will perform maintenance on turbines, pumps, boilers, transformers, protective circuits, and related equipment, work on high voltage systems, and be part of an essential team that may require

Qualifications

• Graduation from high school or equivalent with 4 years' experience performing a maintenance or operations craft in a power plant or heavy industrial environment.
• Associate's degree may substitute for two years of experience.
• High voltage certification preferred or ability to obtain within six months of employment.
• Experience interpreting wiring diagrams and working with diagnostic/test equipment for HV troubleshooting.

Responsibilities

• Estimate idle start times for generator units and follow startup procedures.
• Load turbine/generator as required from DCS or other control systems.
• Read meters and log data, interpreting results for plant performance.
• Install, repair, and maintain electrical and mechanical equipment in the plant (turbines, pumps, piping, boilers, transformers, etc.).
• Perform maintenance and troubleshooting on plant equipment, including HV systems and protective circuits.
