Job summary

WSP USA is seeking a Senior Program Director for our Power & Energy Program Management Office. The ideal candidate is based in Portland, Maine, with the ability to work 2-3 days per week in a WSP or client office.

You will lead the delivery of large, complex programs in the EHV transmission and distribution sector, shaping governance documents, budgets, KPIs, and risk management while guiding multi-disciplinary teams.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, science, or a related major, or equivalent experience in a technical or engineering firm.
  • 15+ years of relevant post education experience in a project management role within the industry.
  • Advanced-level understanding of the project delivery process within the A/E/C industry, with experience managing projects through DBB, EPC, PDB.
  • Advanced knowledge of analytical and organizational skills, with business acumen to bridge business and project management.
  • Strong working knowledge of corporate project management principles, practices, process, delivery, execution, and business impact.
  • Proven track record of managing multiple large-scale/complex projects, programs, documents, systems, and practices.
  • Excellent self-leadership and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to interact with staff at all levels of the organization.
  • Strategic lateral thinking and strong analytical skills with attention to detail and prioritization of responsibilities.
  • Ability to elicit cooperation from senior management, subcontractors, consultants, suppliers, clients, and staff.
  • Advanced knowledge with technical writing, MS Office suite (Word, Excel, Visio, Project, SharePoint), PM tools.
  • Proven ability to uphold workplace safety and adherence to policies.
  • Flexibility to adapt to change and travel as required.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the most complex and largest scale projects, ensuring contributors know what to do and by when, managing budgets, forecasts, margins, KPIs, and risk contingencies.
  • Foster effective strategies to engage stakeholders, maintain relationships, and report progress.
  • Participate in contract negotiations, presentations, and meetings at a technical level.
  • Accountable for profitable performance and successful completion of all projects within area or portfolio.
  • Provide leadership to multi-disciplinary teams and strategic client advisory.
  • Guide assigned managers and staff with performance direction.
  • Develop and maintain Project Initiation and governance documents (REF/RMP, PMP, QP, PSP, Communications Plans).
  • Lead project management discipline meetings, addressing root causes and improvement opportunities.
  • Lead development of project recovery plans with client collaboration.
  • Ensure regular client reporting and updates on scope, risk, and budget.
