Job summary

Vidorra Consulting Group is seeking a skilled Database Engineer in Plano, TX to design, optimize, and maintain PostgreSQL database infrastructure. You’ll ensure high performance, availability, and scalability while supporting development and operations teams.

The role requires 5+ days onsite in Plano and collaboration with cross-functional teams to enforce database best practices, security, and governance across environments. Experience with PostgreSQL, Kubernetes, and observability is essential.

Qualifications

• Proof of authorization to work in the United States.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field (Master's a plus).
• 5+ years of relevant work experience.
• 3+ years of experience in database engineering, with a focus on PostgreSQL and scalable data architectures.
• Solid knowledge of database design principles, normalization, and development methodologies.
• Proficiency in PostgreSQL, including partitioning, replication, and performance tuning.
• Experience with data modeling and working with application developers.
• Understanding of relational and NoSQL databases.
• Experience with monitoring tools: pg_stat_statements, pgBadger, pgBouncer.
• Experience with Liquibase or AtlasGo for schema version control.
• Hands-on experience with replication and backup tools pgBackRest or Barman, and failover strategies.
• Familiarity with Kubernetes for deploying containerized workloads.
• Knowledge of Docker and Kubernetes; IaC tools Terraform, Ansible.
• Familiarity with Git/GitHub and versioning workflows.
• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and database changes in deployment workflows.
• Familiarity with PostgreSQL operators for Kubernetes (CloudNativePG, EDB Postgres).
• Experience deploying PostgreSQL on Kubernetes using Helm, StatefulSets, and persistent storage management.
• Experience with PostgreSQL on on-prem environments like OpenShift.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement PostgreSQL database systems for scalability and maintainability.
• Tune performance via queries, indexing, and configuration.
• Manage replication, backups, and recovery with PostgreSQL tools.
• Monitor database health and address bottlenecks.
• Collaborate with developers to design data models and optimize queries.
• Ensure data security, access control, and governance.
• Support upgrades, patching, and migrations across environments.
• Implement observability with Prometheus/Grafana dashboards, alerts, and centralized logging.
• Coordinate with ops for reliability and capacity planning.
• Create runbooks, participate in on-call rotations, post-incident reviews.
• Contribute to process improvements for productivity and data quality.
