Job summary

TRM Labs is seeking a Senior Software Engineer for the Data Platform team to design, operate, and scale petabyte‑scale PostgreSQL infrastructure powering our products. You will own the serving layer end‑to‑end, optimizing queries, indexes, and schemas to keep APIs fast and reliable.

You will drive AI‑assisted cost optimization, automate routine DB tasks, and ensure data integrity and low latency across CDC pipelines.

Qualifications

• 5–8 years building and operating production PostgreSQL (Citus, Aurora, AlloyDB, or equivalent)
• Deep SQL optimization skills (Explain Plans, CTEs, window functions, partitioning, index design)
• Hands-on experience with CDC tools (PeerDB, Fivetran, Debezium, Datastream, Airbyte)
• Fluency with database profiling to interpret metrics and logs, including AI-assisted summaries

Responsibilities

• Keep customer-facing APIs fast and available by owning query tuning, index design, and schema optimization on petabyte-scale Postgres/Citus
• Cut storage and compute costs by using AI-assisted analysis to identify compression and data-model opportunities and shipping changes to production
• Remove toil by building AI-assisted automation for routine database operations (like self-serve pgbouncer provisioning and disk resizing)
• Protect data integrity and latency by validating database changes before they reach production
• Keep real-time data flowing by managing CDC pipelines (PeerDB, Fivetran, Debezium) and debugging replication failures
