Senior Portable Metrology Engineering Technologist
Client in York, Pennsylvania, is seeking a Senior Portable Metrology Engineering Technologist to support various military programs, including AMPV, M88, Bradley, ACV, M109A7, and M992A3. In this role, the technologist will perform laser inspections and generate dimensional reports for fixtures and combat vehicle structures. This work will support both new design installations and design changes in manufacturing, interfacing with cross-functional teams to address product issues and ensure the quality of components and structures.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct laser inspections for new designs and design changes, ensuring integration into manufacturing processes.
- Generate detailed dimensional reports for Manufacturing, Engineering, and Quality teams.
- Interface with Design Engineering, Program Management, Quality, and Manufacturing teams to address product and design issues.
- Create and deliver quality inspection plans and reports, communicating results and statuses to internal and external customers.
- Review laser data and develop preventative action plans to address potential issues.
- Develop corrective action plans when necessary to ensure product quality and compliance with design specifications.
- Retrieve quality data from laser inspections and share with relevant departments for further analysis and action.
- Apply quality assurance principles, theories, and concepts to resolve complex inspection issues and challenges.
- Present alternative, imaginative solutions to challenging problems in the field.
Required Qualifications:
- Minimum of 2 years of experience with portable CMM (Coordinate Measuring Machine) and laser inspection equipment, or equivalent experience in a related field.
- Experience with GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing) to complete inspections and resolve complex problems.
Education:
- Bachelor’s Degree with 2 years of experience, or an Associate’s Degree with 4 years of experience, or High School Diploma/GED with 8 years of experience.
Technical Skills:
- Strong working knowledge of GD&T and the ability to apply it in inspections.
- Computer literacy, including MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
Metrology Equipment:
- Experience with FARO Edge ARMS and Laser Tracking machines preferred.
- Familiarity with software that interfaces with portable metrology equipment, such as Polyworks (preferred) or other similar software packages.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in a DOD (Department of Defense) manufacturing environment is highly preferred.
Certification:
- Certified in ASME Y14.5 (GD&T) is preferred.
Additional Skills:
- Expert proficiency in Polyworks.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to work in a manufacturing environment, including handling and inspecting heavy or large components.
