**Exact compensation will vary based on skills and experience.**

Primary Purpose

Provides technical and non-technical laboratory services in the Cytogenetics department. Performs routine and complex tests to provide physicians with rapid, accurate results. Works under the supervision of Technical Specialist, Lead, and/or Supervisor.

This position does not qualify for supervisory duties in NY testing areas.

Remote work location within the United States.

Essential Functions
  • Perform waived, moderate, and highly complex tests independently, following SOPs.
  • Operate, calibrate, troubleshoot laboratory instruments, and request service when needed.
  • Maintain QC records and ensure compliance with accreditation standards.
  • Understand specimen collection, handling, and recording procedures.
  • Process, verify, and enter data accurately.
  • Recognize and report abnormal or unexpected results.
  • Participate in proficiency testing.
  • Correlate lab data with clinical information to assess validity.
  • Ensure timely and accurate patient results, recognizing critical values.
  • Prioritize tests and resolve workflow issues.
  • Investigate discrepancies and document resolutions.
  • Respond to technical inquiries and train new staff and students.
  • Maintain inventory and update SOPs.
  • Manage workflow and review reports.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Physical and Other Requirements
  • Ability to bend, reach, move between sites, and communicate frequently.
  • Use PPE in a biohazard environment.
  • Adhere to ARUP policies and procedures.
  • Exertion up to 10 lbs occasionally; fine motor control required.
  • Visual and color perception necessary.
  • Engage in continuing education.
Qualifications

Required

Bachelor's Degree in Biological Sciences or related field.

Experience
Required

Bachelor’s degree in a chemical, physical, biological, genetics, or related field; clinical laboratory science or medical technology; CG(ASCP) certification.

Preferred

Five years of chromosome analysis experience recommended.

Licenses & Certifications
Required

Technologist Cytogenetics certification.
