Job summary

E Ink Corporation is seeking a highly motivated Senior Polymer/Materials Scientist to conduct leading-edge materials research for next-generation electrophoretic display technologies. The candidate will design, formulate, fabricate, and characterize functional polymer films, adhesives, and coatings for front panel laminate platforms.

The role focuses on optimizing chemical, mechanical, electrical, optical, adhesion, barrier, and reliability properties of external phase materials.

Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in Polymer Science or related field with 5+ years industrial experience in polymer formulation, adhesives, coatings, or films.
  • Strong background in polymer formulation chemistry, functional coatings, adhesives, or interfacial science.
  • Experience with pressure-sensitive, structural, laminating, optical, or functional adhesives.
  • Knowledge of acrylic, polyurethane, epoxy, silicone, polyester, polyolefin, rubber, or hybrid polymer systems.
  • Strong understanding of curing mechanisms, including UV/radiation, thermal, moisture, and chemical curing.
  • Experience with analytical techniques such as rheometry, DSC, TGA, DMA, FTIR, GPC/SEC.
  • Self-directed, hands-on, and motivated in fast-paced R&D environment.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the design, formulation, and optimization of polymer-based adhesives, binders, functional coatings, and external phase materials for E Ink’s FPL platforms.
  • Select and evaluate polymers, resins, crosslinkers, tackifiers, solvents, and other formulation additives.
  • Develop formulations with controlled electrical, mechanical, optical, adhesion, and environmental durability properties.
  • Design and execute experiments using DOE and data-driven approaches to improve formulation efficiency and reliability.
  • Characterize formulations and coated materials, including adhesion, cohesion, peel and shear strength, viscosity, and aging behavior.
  • Develop polymer formulations meeting performance, cost, manufacturability, safety, regulatory, and sustainability requirements.
  • Monitor emerging technologies and industry trends in polymer formulations and advanced display materials.
  • Document results and contribute to IP through invention disclosures and patents.
