Job summary

SEIU Local 521 in California seeks a Political Director to lead strategic political organizing, advocacy campaigns, GOTV efforts, endorsements and related reporting for the Local across multiple counties.

The candidate will manage staff, coordinate with the Local leadership, SEIU International and the State Council, build strong coalitions with community groups, and drive a robust political program in line with the Union’s mission.

Qualifications

• Five+ years in political/advocacy work with progressive causes
• Willingness and ability to travel including overnight travel
• Strong oral and written communication skills
• Ability to work under pressure and with minimal supervision

Responsibilities

• Build political support for strategic organizing and bargaining campaigns
• Oversee all aspects of the Local's political program including GOTV and endorsements
• Create and oversee the Local's political plan and budget
• Coordinate the Committee on Political Education with member leadership
• Coordinate the Local's political work with SEIU State Council and area labor councils
• Lobby elected officials to gain support for the Local's issues
• Collaborate with leadership to develop public policy and political advocacy strategies
