Job summary

The Nature Conservancy seeks a Policy Advisor, Natural Climate Solutions to translate climate research into a practical federal and state policy agenda. You will lead cross-functional teams, build partnerships across government, nonprofit and industry actors, and drive changes in forestry policy and carbon sequestration initiatives.

You will influence policy using evidence-based strategies, manage multiple initiatives, and operate within Washington, D.C.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in political science, climate, natural resource management or environmental policy with 5 years in policy analysis and government relations.
  • Knowledge of public and private programs and incentives related to carbon sequestration on natural lands.
  • Direct experience working with partners, government agencies and coalitions in forestry or natural climate solutions.
  • Analytical and project management experience in unstructured environments.
  • Experience directing multiple projects and implementing strategic program goals.
  • Relationship-building skills.
  • Experience negotiating complex high-profile or sensitive agreements.
  • Proven written and verbal communication and presentation skills.

Responsibilities

  • Translate research findings on climate-smart forestry into a practical policy agenda.
  • Advance the policy agenda by coordinating across a matrixed team of interdisciplinary experts.
  • Build partnerships with government, nonprofit, and industry representatives active in forestry policy.
  • Develop evidence-based, politically feasible strategy for federal and state policy adoption.
  • Navigate Washington, D.C. and state capital political dynamics to shape policy implementation.
