Job summary

New York City Economic Development Corporation seeks a Senior Policy Analyst to deepen understanding of NYC’s economy and inform City policy. You will own recurring analyses on population, labor markets, affordability, and monthly indicators, while contributing to flagship publications and leading independent research projects.

The role requires strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to translate complex data into clear insights for multiple audiences.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Statistics, Economics, Urban Planning, Public Policy, or a related field; Master’s degree preferred.
• 3+ years of relevant experience, or a Master’s degree with 2+ years of experience.
• Proficiency analyzing data in R and advanced proficiency in Excel; experience writing reproducible, well-documented code.
• Experience with public microdata (ACS/PUMS, CPS, or QCEW) is a plus.
• Strong written and verbal communication; ability to convey data to diverse audiences.
• Ability to create clear charts, tables, and data visualizations.

Responsibilities

• Research and prepare data; draft internal policy briefs and external reports.
• Maintain recurring analyses of NYC’s economy, including population, labor market, and neighborhood trends.
• Analyze data from public and private sources to generate insights on industries and demographics.
• Respond to ad-hoc data requests from internal teams and City Hall staff.
• Support fiscal and economic impact modeling for real estate projects and policy changes.
• Benchmark NYC against peer cities and national trends; research best practices.
